James Jean James Jean- Prada

James Jean is a force to be reckoned with. I don’t know how large I can post these images but the second image is the entire wall area from the Prada installation from 2007.

One of my favorites, read about it here.

Nicolai Fechin Nicolai Fechin2

Nicolai Fechin a Russian transplant to America escaping the Bolsheviks. He moved from NY to Taos and eventually LA. Tom Buttner turned me on to his work, but he had a way with drawing the face which intrigues me.

Arthur Rackham

It’s no secret that I am a big fan of Arthur Rackham. His technique lends a credibility to the notion that his characters existed before time. I have an old edition of Aesop’s Fables Illustrated by Rackham which is a cherished possession.

Here is a link to a google search of his images. Here is a link to JVJ Publishing site with a nice bibliography section on many old school illustrators, cross referenced with their influences. Neat.

Old School Style-J.A.W.Cooper @ La Luz de Jesus April 5-28

Came across J.A.W. Cooper’s work quite by accident today. I was doing a search to see if Billy Shire still ran the La Luz de Jesus Gallery in East L.A. and came across their list of upcoming 2013 exhibits there. The gallery still has the quality and focus they have always had. Here is a preview of Cooper’s work. I am loving the renewed interest in old techniques by young artists.

Neo Stained Glass Work-Judith Schaechter

Battle sm

I’ve been getting an education on stained glass recently. There are a lot of new techniques out there for fusing imagery onto glass which is especially poignant these days as we are all looking at backlit imagery through our computer screens. I visited The Master Craftsman Studios at FSU and got a tour of their facilities and some of the beautiful work they are doing.

About a year ago I was introduced to the work of Judith Schaechter (Judith’s Website) and was following her progress of an installation at the Eastern State Penitentiary (Blog). The piece titled “The Battle” is pictured above.

I was just knocked out by her imagery and had to include her work on my humble little illustration blog.
